Raj Kapoor

Ranbir Raj Kapoor (Peshawar, December 14, 1924 - New Delhi, June 2, 1988), known as Raj Kapoor, was one of the biggest personalities of Indian cinema.

BIOGRAPHY
son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, he spent his childhood in Peshawar until his father moved to Bombay. The years of youth were characterized by a nomadic life as a result of frequent moves of his father and took him to reside in various Indian cities, including Calcutta.
the age of 22 years got married in a traditional manner or with an arranged marriage, and had five children including Rishi, who was the only one to follow in the footsteps of his father and became a successful actor in turn.
In the eighties, putting aside his acting career, continued success of the film and died prematurely because of severe asthma, a few weeks after receiving one of the highest honors from the President of the Indian republic.

CAREER

Early
Raised in contact with the theater and movie sets where his father worked, as soon as the school began its apprenticeship working in Prithvi Theatres, here was the opportunity to exercise his skills mainstreaming. Among the plays of those years (the forties), deserves to be remembered that he saw Pathan also involved in making the costumes and scenery.
parallel with experience in Prithvi Theatres worked as an assistant in the Bombay Talkies film studio and the director Kidar Sharma, who offered him the lead role in the film Neel Kamal in 1947.
Golden Age RKI Studios
In 1948, finished the experience with the Prithvi, Raj Kapoor decided to create his own film studio, RK Studios, where he created a team of screenwriter KAAbbas, by musician Shankar who joined the singers Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar and actress Nargis.
This working group created in the fifties and sixties some of his most important films. Many innovations were introduced by him in the movies, dream sequences, revealing the anxieties and conflicts of the characters, with very elaborate choreography. For the first time the viewer is in front of actresses in swimsuits, and also for the first time used Indian film scenes in Europe.
In the film Awaara appeared the character of the "Little Tramp", a tribute to Raj Kapoor was in Chaplin fan, and taken in other films like Shree 420, in which the social issue was equally clear.
Awara became very popular outside India, in the former Soviet Union, China and many countries in the Middle East by Raj Kapoor, an Indian whose fame abroad was matched only by Nehru.
The other feature of his films of that time consisted of a combination of romantic and sentimental elements with the humanities and social accents, they told stories of popular characters that had to fight against poverty and corruption, to finally find the fulfillment of the promises of a decent life.
In those years created the artistic alliance with Nargis, the star of many films opposite Raj Kapoor, the great understanding that developed between the two actors on the screen resulted in the interpretation of romantic situations that would remain for a long time in the heart of the public.
This first professional stage reached a turning point when Nargis, after marrying, he decided to interrupt their careers. During the same period in collaboration with the screenwriter Abbas broke off and then resume a few years later.
problematic
seventies The seventies were opened with an ambitious project which involved the making of a film largely autobiographical and an international cast. It was based on the life and experiences of a clown, his loves and professional vicissitudes.
writing the script went on for years and the cost of production reached high levels. Mera Naam Joker released in 1970, despite expectations, did not find favor with the public. The result was a fiasco of gigantic proportions which left Raj Kapoor to the ground by an emotionally and financially.
a movie was probably too modern for its time and the audience was able to understand and appreciate it only after many years, is regarded today as one of the high points and moving the entire career of the director.
The current crisis came to an end when, in 1973 Raj Kapoor went back on the screens, only as a director with a film that would address the public of young people, their dreams and problems. Bobby was born which soon became another milestone for the Hindi popular cinema. The story of two teenagers on the run, the songs and modern clothes, the flamboyant motorcycle were the elements that provoked an immediate response from the audience and made the film a classic of the "young rebels".
recent years
In the eighties the health of Raj Kapoor worsened steadily but his art does not much affected. After film in which the element of love and erotic was prevalent, the director returned to bring social issues and in Prem Rog, 1982 proposed a critique of the mistreatment they suffered that widows in Indian society. This was followed by another film that expressed about the lack of care for the environment and rivers in particular. The story was presented in an allegorical way, putting the idea of \u200b\u200bthe purity of the waters of the Ganges to the story of a girl dragged by powerful men in shady situations and corrupt.
remained unfinished film project that was Henna relations between India and Pakistan, in the direction of peace and cooperation between the two countries. In the original script was provided for the presence of a western character. Would have prevailed a speech of peace and harmony but Raj Kapoor did not have time to implement the project which saw the light some years later when one of his sons, taking over the project, created it in 1992.
Conclusions
The contribution that Raj Kapoor has given to Indian cinema (especially in what is known as Bollywood), is widely recognized. It was characteristic of his style in a film where violence, racism and the insult they had space. His speech was directed to the construction of cinematic harmony and feeling. Innovative treatments, proposed ideas and asking questions, with the constant concern not to lapse into mere propaganda or in bad taste and the need to find moments of harmony with the public.
